Zheng Gua Feng Zhai Raw Pu-erh – Honey-Sweet Forest Spirit
Gua Feng Zhai is a celebrated micro-region inside Yunnan’s Yiwu tea area. “Zheng” means core-origin leaves only. At elevations above 1,200 m, century-old arbor trees intergrow with the rainforest canopy, receiving gentle, diffused sunlight that encourages slow growth and dense internal minerals.
Key Features
- High Honey Aroma: Fresh cups open with pronounced honeyed fragrance and ripe floral undertones.
- Sweet First Sip: Sweetness leads, while soft but persistent cha qi builds at the back of the throat.
- Silky but Powerful: “Soft outside, strong inside” – velvety texture yet deep mountain energy.
- Aging Surprise: Stored tea thickens, bitterness retreats, and a rich, long forest aftertaste emerges.
Brew 5–6 g with 100 °C water in a gaiwan or Yixing pot. Enjoy youthful sweetness now or cellar for layered, syrupy maturity.

Prior to drinking this tea I associated yiwu teas with softness, gentleness and sweetness as it's main characteristics. But this 7 year old GFZ showed me a different side to teas from this region. It has a pleasant punch of bitterness to it, while showcasing great hui gan, intensity in every way possible, good mouthfeel and a lovely honey sweetness + minerality. The leafs are beautifully arranged within the cake and it's an absolute joy to have this one in my collection.
